Featured Speaker:

Gerardo Mackenzie is Professor and Nutrition Department Chair, Nutritionist in AES and the Corinne L. Rustici Endowed Chair in Human Nutrition. He was named department chair in 2024. Mackenzie’s research focuses on nutritional science, particularly the role of diet in cancer development, prevention and treatment. He’s currently studying the impact of dietary interventions, such as the ketogenic diet, alongside chemotherapy as a novel treatment for pancreatic cancer. He’s also examining the role of diets with different fatty acid composition and its impact in cancer development and progression.
Dr. Mackenzie is also the Program Director for the Nutritional Biology Graduate Admissions Pathways (NUTGAP) program,
a mentoring collaboration with Fort Valley State University and Savannah State University, with a goal of increasing the number of scientists from underrepresented groups who pursue research careers in nutritional biology.
