UC Davis Nutrition Professor Debbie Fetter Recognized for Leadership in Nutrition Education

From the classroom to the broader community, Debbie Fetter, Ph.D., makes nutrition science approachable, inclusive and practical. In recognition of this impact earned, the UC Davis associate professor of teaching has been awarded a "Let’s Eat Healthy Leadership Award" from Dairy Council of California.

Dr. Fetter has built a strong reputation as a trusted advocate for evidence-based nutrition education, reaching more than 1,500 students each quarter through her introductory nutrition courses at UC Davis. Her teaching and research focus on inclusive education, health communication, and food security; helping students and the broader public better understand how nutrition science applies to everyday life.

In addition to her work at UC Davis, Dr. Fetter has served as a trusted partner to Dairy Council of California through her contribution as a third-party reviewer of its annual Trends publication, lending academic insight and credibility from an independent, non-industry perspective. She also served as an educational speaker at its Dairy Dialogue event, where she shared science-based insights on nutrition across the life span.

Dr. Fetter’s passion for nutrition education is rooted in making science approachable and relevant. Her research explores how people learn in both online and in-person environments, and how health information is communicated and understood across diverse populations. Through teaching, research, and public engagement, Dr. Fetter continues to support healthier communities by improving nutrition literacy.
