Research Interests

I study energy and macronutrient metabolism and its disruption (leading to chronic cardiometabolic diseases) in women, using clinical (diet or exercise) intervention studies, with the help of indirect calorimetry (whole room calorimeter), -omic (metabolomic, lipidomic, glycoproteomic), behavioral (food intake regulation) and mathematical modeling (clinical, multivariate biostatistics and machine learning) tools.

Current projects include:

  • Manipulating craving and food intake behaviors using dietary fat and endocannabinoids, across different phases of the menstrual cycle in premenopausal women
  • Using machine learning tools to achieve energy-balance based nutritional phenotyping in population data, and
  • Spearheading efforts to use metabolomics (lipomic and glycomic data) and network analysis to understand the impact of dietary patterns on cardiometabolic diseases, especially hypertension.
