The Departments of Environmental Toxicology and Nutrition seek applicants for an Assistant Professor of Nutritional Toxicology and Metabolomics. We seek an outstanding applicant with a Ph.D. degree or equivalent relevant to Nutrition and Toxicology applications. The appointee is expected to develop an extramurally funded research program that emphasizes metabolic flux and pattern analysis, and will be expected to conduct research and outreach consistent with the mission of the Agricultural Experiment Station. Experience in state-of-art product separation and detection is expected (e.g. NMR, Mass spectrometry, electrochemical detection, and/or other novel high throughput platforms). This is a nine-month tenure-track appointment with eleven-month term employment to be offered and continued based on academic personnel review. The position has requirements for teaching, research and university and public service. The successful candidate will occupy a key position in this University-wide multi-disciplinary program, which aims to identify foods and food components important to chronic disease risk reduction, The Foods for Health Institute. The University of California, Davis seeks an internationally recognized leader to serve as Director of the UC Davis Foods for Health Institute (FFHI). As Director of the FFHI, responsibilities include (1) providing leadership and organizational support to the research, outreach and extension efforts in the area of Foods for Health on the Davis campus; (2) interfacing with faculty offering undergraduate and graduate curricula related to the Foods for Health program; (3) establishing and maintaining contact with scientists working in the optimization of Foods for Health at other institutions, and (4) leading efforts to obtain extramural funds to support research and key programmatic outreach activities that are contained within the Foods for Health program. The Director of the FFHI also will be responsible for: (5) developing and implementing short and long-term plans for integration of innovative research in nutrition and health on other UC campuses and into Cooperative Extension programs throughout the state; (6) providing leadership and prioritization of, and expanding funding for a FFHI competitive grants program; (7) providing statewide leadership for the distribution of information related to foods, nutrition and health through conferences, short-courses, workshops, and publications; and (8) providing leadership in communicating with stakeholders about food production, nutrition and health. As Professor and Director, the incumbent is expected to conduct teaching, research and outreach in the area of sustainable Foods for Health. Information regarding the Foods for Health Institute, with respect to its vision, goals, and structure can to be provided by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. The Director will report to the Lead Dean (Neal Van Alfen, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences) for matters relating to the FFHI.
