Dr. Liz Applegate, a nationally renowned expert on nutrition and fitness, is a faculty member of the Nutrition Department at the University of California, Davis. Her enthusiasm and informal style make her undergraduate nutrition classes the nation’s largest with enrollments exceeding 2,000 annually. This year, she received the Excellence in Education Award and in 1996, the Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of California.
Dr. Applegate is the author of several books including, Nutrition Basics for Better Health & Performance (Kendall Hunt, 2004), Bounce Your Body Beautiful (Three Rivers Press, 2003), Encyclopedia of Sports and Fitness Nutrition (Three Rivers Press, 2002), and Eat Smart Play Hard (Rodale Press, June 2001). She has written over 300 articles for national magazines and is the Nutrition Columnist for Runner’s World magazine. Dr. Applegate is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and a member of Sports and Cardiovascular Nutritionists, a practice group of the American Dietetics Association. Frequently, she serves as a keynote speaker at industry, athletic and scientific meetings and has been a guest on more than 200 international, national and local radio and television shows including Good Morning America, as well as health segments on CNN and ESPN. Dr. Applegate regularly appears as an expert in national print media such as USA Today, Washington Post and Better Homes and Gardens. She serves as a nutrition consultant to NBA and NFL individuals and teams and is currently the team nutritionist for the Oakland Raiders.
Dr. Applegate teaches Nutrition 10 and Nutrition 11.
