After leaving UCD, Nicole worked for several years at UCSF Carol Buck Breast Care Center, where she continued her graduate work on investigating the impact of soy isoflavones in preventative health. In 2004 she joined the non-profit HopeLab, where she continues to work as the Manager of Data Analysis Services. On first joining HopeLab, her experience in the development and implementation of randomized clinical studies was applied to an international study looking at the impact of the video game Re-Mission on adherence to treatment for cancer in teens and young adults. Her next phase of work at HopeLab drew from the troubleshooting skills she learned conducting bench work at UCD and applied them to hardware, software and website development. The result was a new product called Zamzee, which promotes physical activity in young people. Nicole wrote the patent for the original product idea and then worked side by side with engineers on each stage of product development. After wrapping up a randomized clinical study on the Zamzee intervention with healthy middle school students, Nicole continues research on the product in collaboration with researchers from other organizations (academic and medical) who are investigating the impact of Zamzee on varied populations of young people.
In our continuing effort to reach out to the community, the Department has recently created the Nutrition Department Alumni newsletter. Under the direction of Dr. Judith Stern, the first issue was published in Winter/Spring 2003.
We are hopeful that this newsletter will provide a mechanism for our Davis family to keep in contact. We welcome news of your recent accomplishments and transitions. Please let us know about new jobs, promotions, awards, publications, exhibitions, and your interesting activities. Take a moment to drop us a note...and we love to receive photos!
Below you will find a listing of the most recent publications of our alumni newsletter. You will need Adobe Reader in order to access the files. If you do not have it installed on your computer you may visit Adobe.com to download a free copy of the reader.
Gifts to the Department of Nutrition support cutting edge research, student education and training, and outreach efforts that share new knowledge. If you would like to make a gift to the UC Davis Nutrition Department, please visit our online giving site.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with more info about yourself. Be sure to include first and last name as well as your major and date of graduation. From there we would love to hear about what is new with you. Those that are interested may be featured in our online and print Alumni Spotlight publications.
